Mayor’s Corner

October 2012

I’ve heard several people comment lately on the fact that the last three months have been much drier than usual.  Judging by the number of times I’ve taken my car through the car wash, I would agree with this.  Where’s the rain that at least washes some of the dirt away?  And, I suppose that is the reason for the problems I’ve been experiencing with my toes – those darn web feet are beginning to shrivel up.  While I have enjoyed the sunny weather very much this year, I will admit to looking forward to the first real rain.  Sort of like the earth taking a bath; washing away layers of dirt and grime, coming out smelling fresh and clean again.

Didn’t it also seem like just yesterday that the sun was setting about 9:00?  And now it’s dark at 7:30 and before I know it, I’ll be driving home in the dark.  So now seems like a good time to check your car’s headlights to make sure they’re working and replace the windshield wipers that may not be as useful as they should be.  I just replaced mine last week because I noticed that they were acting more like “windshield smear the dirt around” than wipers.

With the fall, also come so many more activities that bring kids out and about.  Football games are here again – Go Tigers! – school concerts in the evenings, and let’s not forget Halloween.  Watch out for each other if you’re driving and stay safe if you’re walking or biking.  Remember that you can always get a bike helmet from City Hall if you need one.

Until next month, stay safe and well.
